This course introduces students to the principles and practices of environmental impact assessment, regulatory compliance, and sustainable project planning within the Philippine context. It provides a foundation for identifying potential environmental consequences, recognizing legal requirements under the Philippine Environmental Impact Statement System (PEISS), and developing robust environmental management plans. Topics include screening and scoping, impact prediction using GIS and matrices, climate change risk integration, and the legal frameworks governing Environmental Compliance Certificates (ECC). Through case studies, field-based projects, and technical workshops, students will design and present comprehensive Environmental Impact Statements that integrate ecological, economic, and social dimensions of sustainability. Assessment emphasizes continuous project development, technical reporting, and the final presentation of a proposed project's mitigation strategies. By the end of the course, students are expected to demonstrate scientific rigor, inclusivity, and professional accountability in addressing development challenges through evidence-based environmental assessment.
