This course discusses the physical, and mechanical properties of forest products. This course aims to equip the students with knowledge of wood in relation to moisture and how its fluctuation affects its physical and mechanical properties in all wood dimensions; wood in relation to heat and its application to reduce the amount of moisture within wood to improve its properties; wood in relation to electricity and its fundamentals in the application of moisture determination using the moisture meter; and wood in relation to sound where the students will learn the fundamentals of sound properties of wood and its potential as a material for musical instrument. This course also teaches the students the determination of the mechanical strength of wood as a viscoelastic material such as modulus of elasticity, modulus of rupture, and the like. Furthermore, this course also equips students with knowledge in wood seasoning, and preservation for the utilization of forest products.
