In response to the K-12 curriculum of the basic education, the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) issued Memorandum Order No. 20 s. 2013. The said memorandum adopts a paradigm shift from a disciplinal general education courses to a more holistic and interdisciplinary general education courses, and this includes the offering of Mathematics in the Modern World (MMW). It is a 3-unit course that deals with the nature of mathematics, appreciation of its practical, intellectual, and aesthetic dimensions, and application of mathematical tools in daily life.
