This course concentrates on the gathering, assessing, reporting of information, and the like that hone the students’ journalistic and communication skills. It aims to engage students in worthwhile activities which promote responsible journalism and freedom of the press. It also involves the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) as a means of reporting and broadcasting relevant information.
This course follows a flipped classroom format where the instructor and students meet onsite for knowledge-deepening
activities, oral presentations, chapter tests, and mid-term and final exams. Readings, lecture videos, quizzes, and other activities are uploaded to the Learning Management System.
ST 8 is also a practical course for students who are beginners in the field of journalism. The course is basically a lecture-laboratory type. Students are expected to demonstrate their
learning by way of designing a four-page newsletter and a recorded news report through collaborative efforts. Their understanding of the concepts and principles of journalism
will also be displayed in the conduct of the activities embedded in the lessons in this course.
