This course highlights the teaching of English as a second language with a primary focus on the utilization of the approaches, strategies and techniques to improve knowledge on the structure and fluency in the English language through the five macro skills namely: listening, reading, speaking, writing, and viewing. The course allows students to explore the various instructional technologies and research-based principles which aid in the enhancement of language teaching methodologies.
Teaching English in Elementary Grades (Language Arts) is intended for second-year college students. It is one of the new subjects included in the Bachelor of Elementary Education as prescribed in the CHED Memo no. 74 s. 2019 under the new BEEd curriculum. It follows a lecture-type in a flexible format. Students are expected to demonstrate their learning by way of designing a lesson exemplar and use such a plan in the conduct of a final teaching demonstration.
