MALT 208 Discourse Analysis is designed to provide graduate students an in-depth exploration of language use and communication in various contexts. Through the examination of spoken, written, and visual texts, students will develop critical analytical skills to understand the role of discourse in shaping meaning, power dynamics, and social interactions. The course covers major theoretical approaches and practical methodologies in discourse analysis. The course is approached through flexible teaching and learning modalities where the instructor and students meet onsite or offsite in a specified course platform for a period of time for synchronous sessions and asynchronous sessions via CSU Masao LMS. Synchronous and asynchronous lectures, online discussion groups/fora, written reports, annotated bibliography, and case/document studies/analyses related to the course are the diverse strategies to be applied within the course duration. Students are expected to immerse in outcomes-based approaches to learning, governed by the class policies and course learning plan.
