This course will provide the students the opportunity to advance their understanding of research through a critical exploration of research language, ethics, and approaches.  This will guide students to critically review literature relevant to their field of interests and determine how research findings are useful in forming their understanding of their work. This course will provide the students with the basic knowledge and skills in identifying research problems and apply critical thinking and creativity in preparing a conceptual framework towards finding scientific solutions to environmental issues. This will acquaint them on the language of research, ethical principles and challenges, and the elements of the research process within quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods approaches.

At the end of the course, the students are expected to:

  1. Understand research terminology.

  2. Identify the components of a literature review process.

  3. Critically analyze published research.

  4. Be aware of the ethical principles of research, ethical challenges and approval processes.

  5. Describe quantitative, qualitative and mixed methods approaches to research.
