Geol 103 is a lecture-laboratory course that presents the fundamental principles of mineralogy, including mineral chemistry, mineral identification, phase diagrams, mineral structures, and elementary crystallography. Also introduced in the course are studies on the optical properties of minerals, including studies on light properties, polarization, pleochroism, and extinction angles, among others.
