The course aims to teach and train students on a variety of approaches available to Sociologists in addressing a research question. It is “an introduction to the major research methods in social science, their links to theory and practice, and their use in research projects.” Thus, it focuses on the overview of the concepts and tools of quantitative social research. Beyond quantitative data analysis, this course deals with issues related to research methods. This is because statistics and research methods are intimately related. Also, the students should have already been exposed to some topics (e.g., levels of measurement, hypothesis testing, sampling, modes of observation) as this course demonstrates how research methods and statistics are related.
