Applied sociology is a term that describes practitioners who use sociological theories and methods outside of academic settings with the aim to “produce positive social change through active intervention” (Bruhn 1999: 1). Thus, the major aim of this course to utilize relevant sociological knowledge to advance the goals of agroforestry, particularly in alleviating human poverty and addressing environmental concerns in the Philippine watershed areas. It intends to highlight the ways in which sociological concepts, theories, and methods are actually employed or can be applied for the use and betterment of agroforestry practices in the country.
