General Biology (BioSci 1) deals with the study of life. It involves Biology as a science, the fundamental characteristics of the world. It also introduces the theories about life; how it began by touching the evolutionary concepts; diversity of life, and the chemical basis of life, whereby organic and inorganic compounds essential to life are also discussed; also emphasizes the cell as the basic and fundamental unit of life, concepts on heredity and genetics, life processes from the simplest cell to the most complex individual. It also deals with ecological concepts and their relationship to the current environmental problems and issues and, most importantly, discusses the ways to conserve and preserve natural resources. The laboratory of the course would serve as the application of the learnings gained from the lecture portion.
