CHEMISTRY 36 is an introductory course to Organic Chemistry. It is the chemistry of the compounds of carbon where we can see these organic compounds everywhere around us. They  are in our foods, flavors, and fragrances; in our medicines, toiletries, and cosmetics; in our plastics, films, fibers, and resins; in our paints, varnishes, and glues; and, of course, in our bodies and the  bodies of all other living organisms. This course is intended for non-chemistry majors, mainly those entering health sciences, and related sciences like nursing, nutrition, and biology as well as  students in environmental studies. This course reviews topics of general chemistry necessary for understanding organic chemistry and introduces the basic concept of organic chemistry. At the end  of the course, the student is expected to know the different classes of organic compounds, different functional groups, the basic physical and chemical properties of each class of organic compounds.  Chemical connections are also incorporated to supplement for the applications of the principle behind in each section. Students should learn to appreciate the importance of organic chemistry  around them.
