Geol 103 is a lecture - laboratory course that introduces students to the concepts necessary for the understanding of structural geological deformation such as tectonics, stress and strain. The description, classification, and interpretation of geological structures including faults, folds, and joints will also be studied. Furthermore, these structures will also be described in terms of the tectonic settings by which they are commonly associated with. Practical techniques for structural analysis will also be introduced via lab exercises. These concepts and techniques will then be used to understand the tectonic character and history of a given region, particularly here in the Philippines.

Lecture classes will be done online while laboratory classes will adopt a blended learning approach. Laboratory exercises and written and/or oral quizzes will be conducted after every topic in order to assess the students' knowledge. Flexible learning will be promoted by uploading learning resources such as video lectures, supplementary readings, and Powerpoint presentations every week. Examinations in both lecture and laboratory classes will be done face - to - face ensuring that proper health and safety measures are practiced.
