This course deals with the fundamental principles of mechanics and their applications to the simple engineering problems involving static equilibrium; forces and moments and their vector representation; systems of discrete and continuously distributed forces; analysis of beams, frames, trusses, and cables; friction; centers of gravity and centroids; first and second moments of length, area, volume, and mass; virtual work. Kinetics and kinematics of a particle; kinetics and kinematics of rigid bodies; work-energy method; and impulse and momentum.
