It discusses the past and current systems of plant classification of woody and non-woody plants. It also describes the different methods in classifying, nomenclature and identifying woody and non-woody plants and survey of commonly known woody and non-woody plants in natural forest stands and man-made forests and plantations.

     The course aims to equip the students the knowledge of the current and past plant classification systems, nomenclature and identification of commonly known woody and non-woody plants. This course will equip the students one of the most important knowledge a forester could have. This will give the students the idea how to identify and classify woody and non-woody plants. The course will also help them prepare in the identification of wood. A forester’s basic knowledge is the skill to name a plant or tree which is very important in their future endeavor academically and professionally.

      Blended learning will be used in this course. Classes will utilize online platform through CSUs Learning Management System for the first few weeks to few months while face to face interaction will be employed for laboratory activities and moving exams including major exams if major exams is not viable through online. Active learning, group work and fieldwork are the preferred teaching strategies. Activities and assignments to determine student’s learning of the course will be through laboratory exercises, presentations, projects and others appropriate for particular student and situation.
